Our furry miracles part 2
This small Pekinese dog came to us in July 2008. He was one of the most
harmed animals we ever had here. The image shows how he looked like.
His fur was totally covered with dust, mud, tangled, and full of fleas. When we
cut his fur we couldn't separate the ears, everything was such a huge
mess...He had to wander for months. His small body was covered with bruises (probably
beaten), it was red, and he had a skin disease. He didn't see with his left
eye and his teeth were in the horrific condition. The vet had to remove
three where the gums were suppurating with pus. He was a bag of nerves.
Before cutting his fur he received a big dose of tranquilizers but he still tried to escape,
was biting whatever or whoever he managed to reach - he was terrified.
After visits at the vet and all possible care we could have given him he
was much better, as you can se on the pictures.
He still had a problem with the eye, but he started partly seeing. He had problems with walking as if
he couldn't get used to his new, light fur and to the fact that he could
see. He was recently adopted by an amazing family. He lives with another
Pekinese and a few cats :) He also went through some eye surgery, which
made his sight much better.

Our furry miracles:
We would like to show you what we do everyday and, by doing that, encourage
you all not to give up on animals under any circumstances. Most of our
animals have been through some bad experiences in their lives. Sometimes
it's hard to imagine and stop thinking, but life goes on. A lot of care,
attention and love gave them hope in the goodness of people. Here are some
stories of the some of the animals in our care, and the suffering we
rescued them from:
Nordi has a very dramatic story. She came to us extremely skinny and
scared. She was saved by firemen from the pond. Her 'owner' left her on
the middle of the frozen pond with legs and neck tied with the rope that
way, that every time she tried to free herself the rope was tightening
stronger around her neck. When the ice melted Nordi tried to move in the
water but the rope was tightening... Now Nordi is less frightened, but she
still keeps the distance to people. She loves running, is very energetic
and fast. And she is putting on weight :) Still waiting for a real home.
Unfortunately her torturer was never found. Here are her images after
she was driven to us and now:
Half-persian
This cat came to us in a terrible physical and mental condition. He was
in a very bad way, hardly moving when we tried to approach him, he was
almost wild. We don't know what he went through in his life but, thankfully,
with the time passing his personality completely changed. He loves human's
companion, being caressed. He is an apple of Mrs. Zosia's eye :)

Those two dogs live near our shelter. We have no more space to take them in. We keep feeding them. They have a yard to stay, but they badly need a new dog house. Please help us to raise funds. Thank you!!!

Here is Dolly. She arrived at the Asylum in July. She already had problems
with her back leg when she came to us, which was probably broken and didn't
heal properly. She has problems with walking and she limps. On top of that
she was hungry, scared and tired. Now she is much better but she is waiting
for badly needed surgery. It will save her from pain and further
complications. We are currently collecting money for the surgery.

Background
It all started 11 years ago. The problem of homeless animals was
overwhelming in Glowno. Stray animals on the street, cats thrown out from
the cellars in blocks of flats, pets abused, not fed by their owners, and
so on. Mrs. Zosia Baranska was always there to help. But it was too much
for her and a few good people who always gave her a helping hand. She
started the asylum, from scratch with the help of friends, facing obstacles
at every step. But they did it! Now there are almost 100 dogs and 50 cats
in the shelter, not mentioning all animals that are fed and get medicines
from the asylum. Mrs. Zosia gets up early in the morning, going to the
shelter, dealing with local authorities and all manner of bureaucratic
headaches. The shelter would never have existed without her. She goes home
when everything is done, sometimes late at night. The amount of lives she
has saved is impossible to count. We are all here impressed by her will of
dealing with problems and from her we learn not to give up under any
circumstances.

Luna is a one-year-old cat. In August she was hit by a car. The driver didn't stop, leaving her severely injured on the street. Someone who witnessed the accident immediately took Luna to the vet. She was paralised, and needed expensive surgery. The woman who took care of her spent all her savings to help Luna. Now Luna is in a foster home with this amazing woman. She took care of Luna who demands 24 hours attention. She can't urinate by herself, her bladder has to be pushed. She needs excercises, and is learning how to walk from the beginning. Luna is extremely brave and patient. She goes through a few hours of training her back legs everyday. We are extremely grateful to her foster caregiver. Luna needs regular visits to the vet, medicines, and rehabilitation. We are covering these costs but it is getting harder everyday. We have a few animals who are undergoing treament, after surgeries. More expenses have mounted with the cold weather and winter is getting closer. At the moment we can't afford dry food for our animals. And we have had a bigger influx of animals since the weather conditions have gotten colder. We can't leave them on the street.
Images of Luna after the surgery:
Yesterday Luna had a check-up at the vet. He is surprised with the amazing progress she had made within such a short period of time. Her back legs are much better, she learnt how to use them to support her body. She can do it only for seconds, still it's amazing progress and a lot of work and money still needed...
She is young and loves to play. It's impossible to stop her from chasing everything she sees, as you can see on the video. She has her legs covered with bandages so she didn't hurt herself.
Thank you all our friends from Twitter! We need your support really badly.
If there is anyone who will want to help by donating to cover Luna's treatment and helping other animals we will be grateful. Please remember you can also virtually adopt our dogs or cats.

Holidays are a very difficult time for all shelters.
The animal’s owners go on holidays and animals are thrown away to the woods, tied to the fences, or left at the gates of our shelter…
We currently have 94 dogs and 48 cats in our care, and the holidays have some time to run yet… The incoming dogs and cats in need is relentless.
Animal are not object ! – DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY!!!!!
